Helena originally trained as a linguist and became a Physiotherapist literally by accident when she was run over while crossing the road in London and subsequently received Physio rehabilitation!
After qualifying from Sheffield Hallam in 2007 Helena first worked in the NHS in South Wales before marrying and moving to Poole where she worked as a locum in the community and further developed an interest in orthopaedics.
The next five years were a busy time – 2 children, 8 house moves and continuing to develop her skills in orthopaedics in the NHS and private Hospitals!
In 2012 Helena’s husband’s career brought the family to Devon and she started working for the NHS in Torbay. Helena grew up in Herefordshire but the South Hams has always had a very special place in her heart as she owes her very existence to the Salcombe Lifeboat saving her father from a shipwreck in 1962!
While at Torbay Hospital Helena has worked alongside fellow Quay Physiotherapist Wendy and has developed a particular passion for pelvic health, pelvic floor and continence Physiotherapy and postnatal rehabilitation. She completed the APPI Pilates Certification to complement these skills and also offers specialist pregnancy and postnatal massage.
Helena’s own active lifestyle makes her all the more passionate about helping patients return to exercise successfully after childbirth and maintain that throughout their lives. Formerly a rugby and lacrosse player, outside work these days she can be found mountain biking on the moors or swimming in the sea – but having conquered the Dart 10Km swim last year is looking for a new challenge!
